Blaine Cameron has been a member of Ottawa ACORN for 6 years, joining when an organizer knocked on his door when he was living in a problematic building in Vanier. Since then he has become a leader, and is currently the elected City Wide Chair on the Ottawa ACORN board. Blaine has been an advocate for ACORN’s national Internet for All campaign calling for $10/month internet for everyone under the low income measure since it started 4 years ago. His involvement has included speaking to the press, leading actions/forums, presenting in front of the CRTC and was a part of the Ministry of Innovation’s most recent announcement on a $10/month internet program for low income households with children- an ACORN victory resulting in $20 million of savings for low income families across the country.
Blaine is also a Member at Large of the Provincial Executive of the Ottawa Centre NDP riding association. From a young age he’s been involved in the Scouting movement, through which he developed a civic mindedness, and further developed an interest in history, philosophy, and political science. The son of a member of the Armed Forces, he’s had the opportunity to live, work, and see many different regions across Canada and Europe, with a stint working at the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C.. His educational background is a College diploma in Museum Studies, and some University education in the Humanities.
